Free QR Code Generator — URLs, WiFi, Email & More

QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that store information readable by smartphone cameras. They've become essential for businesses — from restaurant menus and contactless payments to marketing campaigns and event check-ins.

Types of QR Codes You Can Create

URL QR Codes: The most common type. Link directly to your website, landing page, product page, or social media profile. Great for print materials, business cards, and signage.

WiFi QR Codes: Allow guests to connect to your WiFi network by scanning — no need to type the password. Perfect for cafes, offices, hotels, and events.

Email QR Codes: Pre-fill the recipient address, subject line, and message body. Useful for customer feedback, support requests, and marketing campaigns.

Plain Text QR Codes: Store any text content. Used for product information, serial numbers, asset tracking, and more.

QR Code Best Practices

  • Size matters: For print, ensure QR codes are at least 2cm x 2cm. For billboards or distance scanning, follow the 10:1 rule — the scanning distance should be no more than 10 times the QR code size.
  • Contrast is key: Use dark foreground on light background. Avoid low-contrast colour combinations. The default black-on-white has the highest scan reliability.
  • Error correction: Higher error correction (Q or H) allows the code to be read even if partially damaged or obscured, but requires more data density. Use Level M for most purposes, Level H if the code might be partially covered.
  • Test before printing: Always scan your QR code on multiple devices before printing thousands of copies.
  • Add a call-to-action: Don't just place a QR code — tell people what they'll get when they scan it. "Scan for menu", "Scan to connect to WiFi", etc.

Business Use Cases

Restaurants: Digital menus, ordering systems, review requests. Retail: Product information, loyalty programs, payment. Events: Ticketing, check-in, networking. Real Estate: Property listings, virtual tours. Marketing: Campaign tracking, lead capture, app downloads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are QR codes free to use?
Yes, QR codes are an open standard and completely free to generate and use. There are no licensing fees. Our generator creates standard QR codes that work with any QR code reader.
What is QR code error correction?
Error correction allows a QR code to be read even if part of it is damaged or obscured. Level L recovers 7% of data, M recovers 15%, Q recovers 25%, and H recovers 30%. Higher levels make the code denser but more resilient.
What is the maximum data a QR code can store?
A standard QR code can store up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters or 7,089 numeric characters. For URLs, this is more than enough. Keep data concise for faster scanning — use URL shorteners for long links.
Can I customise QR code colours?
Yes, you can change the foreground and background colours. Ensure sufficient contrast between the two colours — dark foreground on light background works best. Avoid using similar colours as this reduces scan reliability.
